Family Name: The surname 叶 originates from the Spring and Autumn Period (770–476 BCE) in the State of Chu. Prince Zhen, son of King Zhuang of Chu, was granted the fiefdom of Shenlu (present-day Jingmen, Hubei), and his descendants adopted the surname 沈 ('Shěn'). In the Eastern Han Dynasty (25–220 CE), Shen Zuliang's son, Shen Zhuliang, was granted the fiefdom of Yeyi (present-day Yexian, Henan), and his descendants changed their surname to 叶 ('Yè') in honor of the fiefdom.
